At the Kabai site of global chemical company Evonik Industries, demand for cooling capacity increased significantly due to higher production volumes, so we built a new cooling system for them in 2015.
The previous solution was environmentally unsustainable: the factory used water from a nearby river for cooling, then simply discharged the used "grey" water along with the wastewater. This open cooling system not only had an environmental impact, but was also subject to increasing regulatory pressure.
The only good solution to this problem was to replace the "open" cooling system with a closed system consisting of the following components:
The cooling system operates fully automatically, without any human intervention. As the cooling is energy-efficient, requires minimal human resources, and produces clean water as a by-product, the system is highly sustainable.
Duration: 2015, 8 months in total
On-site installation: 4 months
The project team:
Total: 50 specialists worked on the project
The commissioned cooling system fully meets Evonik Industries' increased cooling requirements while ensuring maximum sustainable operation. The closed system has significantly reduced the environmental impact, and fully automated operation results in long-term cost savings.
